Overcome your fear of flying

If you're a nervous or reluctant flyer, you're not alone. Whilst many people take air travel for granted, it's estimated that around 1 in 6 of us has some sort of anxiety about flying - but now there's help close at hand.

This half-day workshop will give you valuable information to help you fly more calmly and proven relaxation techniques that you can use before and during flights - all designed to help you to overcome your fear of flying and take off with confidence!

The workshop is divided into three parts: Fly with confidence!

Part 1 - Flight: facts & fiction

Part 2 - Fear: what it is & how it develops

Part 3 - Relaxation techniques

 

Part 1 - Flight: facts & fiction

Sometimes, fear is made worse by not knowing or understanding what is happening.

There is strong evidence to suggest that lack of knowledge about how an aircraft flies and operates makes anxiety about flying much worse. 

In the first part of this workshop, I'll help you to understand how aircraft fly safely, and will address some of the most common misconceptions about flying, giving you the knowledge you need to fly more confidently.

Part 2 - Fear: what it is & how it develops

Many adults who dislike or fear flying say that their fear has developed over time, despite having flown happily when they were younger.

In Part 2, I will talk about how and why fear of flying can begin and develop. I'll explain the nature of fear, and the differences between fears and phobias, as well as the mechanics of panic attacks and how they may be prevented or controlled.

Part 3 - Relaxation Techniques

To leave behind your fear of flying, you need not just information but also practical skills that you can use to relax and stay calm and comfortable. 

In the final part of the workshop, you will have an opportunity to learn about positive ways of coping with and minimising the symptoms of anxiety. I'll take you through a selection of proven techniques to help you to relax physically and mentally, and you will have an opportunity to try these for yourself.

Who should attend

This workshop is specifically designed for people who want to fly calmly, comfortably and with more confidence:

- people who have not yet flown in an aircraft, and feel anxious and apprehensive about taking their first flight

- people who have flown before, but who have gradually become more nervous about flying

Each workshop runs for four hours, and the attendance fee is £40 per person, including refreshments.  Also included is a workshop handbook, so that you can remind yourself of what you have learned and continue to practise the relaxation techniques.

When your place has been confirmed, payment may be made by sending a cheque or by using Paypal. Cancellations received at least 7 days in advance will be refunded in full; however, for cancellations received less than 7 days in advance, no refund will be made.
